Winter Update

 
 

 
 
In the art room we continue to explore Collaboration, enjoying the challenges as well as the rewards! The students work wonderfully together, navigating the planning process as well as the implementation of their ideas. When conflicts arise, which of course they do, they have opportunities to listen, problem solve, and make decisions together.
 
Primary Artists have been engaged in their study of boats in the classroom which gave us the opportunity to contribute to their learning in the art room. They created ceramic sail boats and explored paint texture tools to create an ocean with currents:
 
 
They also collaborated to create some beautiful paintings using paint sticks after being inspired by the book, "Maybe Something Beautiful". This picture book is about neighbors collaborating with an artist to beautify their neighborhood by painting murals together. It is based on a true event.

 
Valentine's Day was the perfect time to explore Mono Printing:

Second Grade Artists explored a variety of painting techniques after looking at fall gourds and pomegranates:
 
 
 
They also enjoyed  creating their own Dream Catchers inspired by their Native American Studies. This multi-week project involved making their own clay beads, sewing, wire attachment, and more! 
 
 
The Second Grader's most recent project involved copper foil design work, while creating their own Medicine Pouches:

Third Grade Artists have been putting together many of the skills they have acquired over their years at CHS. Most recently they have been working on Collaborative Circus Structures, inspired by the artist Alexander Calder, and his Miniature Wire Circus. Here are the steps...
